Alcoholism Marriage: Al-Anon, Alcoholism and Marriage of Today's World Exposed!

One of the most disturbing and crushing events that can occur in the married life of a once happy couple is when one of the partners ends up afflicted with alcoholism. Unfortunately, in many instances, the alcoholic simply does not get help for his or her self in a timely manner. Many professionals maintain that the person afflicted with alcoholism needs to "hit rock bottom" before that individual will do something about his or her drinking. The alcoholism marriage problem can be horrific and lead to a dismal life not only for the alcoholic but also for the spouse.

If you have found yourself facing the alcoholism marriage dilemma because your spouse is an active alcoholic, you do have avenues available to you through which you can obtain necessary and much needed help, support, advice and assistance. Perhaps the best course of action that you can take - and that you can take right now - is heading off to a meeting of Al-Anon.

Chances are that if you have had at least a short term experience with the alcoholism marriage issue, you have at least heard of Al-Anon. However, you likely may also have many questions about what Al-Anon is all about.

In considering alcoholism marriage problems and issues, Al-Anon has adopted a very simple statement of purpose:

"Al-Anon offers understanding help; support to families and friends of problem drinkers. Our program is adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous and is based upon the Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions and Twelve Concepts of Service."

At the present time, there are Al-Anon chapters the world over. Indeed, if you live in a community that has even one active AA chapter, you likely also have an active Al-Anon chapter. For obvious reasons, considering all that is involved with alcoholism marriage problems and issues, AA and Al-Anon go hand in hand in many instances.
