Alcoholism Disease: progressive and degenerative - Part 2The third stage of the alcoholism disease is characterized by loss of control. The alcoholic faces a gamut of problems related to relationships, work, finance and sometimes, legal. He or she avoids friends and family and is uninterested in things and happenings. The alcoholic consumes drinks, frequently to 'pacify the nerves'. Aggressive behavior, finding excuses for drinking, unreasonable resentments, loss of willpower and interest, health deterioration, decrease in tolerance, changes in attitudes, etc are commonly observed in alcoholics, in this stage. The loss of control becomes pronounced and complete in the fourth and final stage of alcoholism. The alcoholics become so dependent on alcohol that they require and need it to function. Moral deterioration, remorse, thinking impairment, loss of tolerance, deterioration of personal relationships, lengthy episodes of intoxications, hallucinations, obsession, etc are common traits of alcoholics, who are in the fourth and final stage of the disease. The productivity of a person is marred and hampered by alcohol consumption and the ability of a person to think is impaired and sometimes, alcohol dependent. Since, the alcoholism disease has many physical, personal, financial, legal and social consequences, this disease is considered to be dangerous. Programs like Alcoholics Anonymous help the people, to counter the drinking problem. The program makes an alcoholic develop the determination and resolve to stay away from drinks and rebuild a shattered life and physique. Alcoholism related problems can be treated and cured, only when the alcoholics are resolute and determined not to indulge in it and value their work, reputation, goodwill, relationships and life that they have forged painstakingly!
